The LeCoultre Deep Sea Master Mariner is one of the most distinctive vintage dive watches produced during the golden era of tool watches in the late 1960s. Manufactured for the American market under the LeCoultre name (used by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the U.S. at the time), this model combines robust dive watch engineering with the refined design language the brand is known for.

Featuring the characteristic dual-crown compressor case, the watch allows the inner rotating bezel to be adjusted via the upper crown while the lower crown controls the time and date. The black dial with applied markers and vintage tritium lume offers excellent legibility and strong vintage charm.

TRIVIA

  • The Deep Sea Master Mariner was produced during the same era as many legendary compressor divers made by EPSA (Ervin Piquerez S.A.), a case manufacturer responsible for iconic dual-crown dive watches used by brands such as Longines, IWC, and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

  • Jaeger-LeCoultre used the “LeCoultre” signature for watches sold in the United States due to historical distribution arrangements.

  • The cross-hatched crowns seen on this watch are a hallmark of EPSA compressor cases and were designed to improve grip when operating the crowns underwater.

  • The compressor case system actually improves water resistance as pressure increases, a clever engineering feature that made these watches particularly respected among professional divers of the era.

The Deep Sea Master Mariner represents a fascinating piece of dive watch history and a collectible example of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technical heritage during the peak of the 1960s tool watch era.
